Dairy Cows

Dairy Cows

Laevis Dairy Cow isopods are hardy, medium-sized isopods that thrive in a moist, well-ventilated enclosure with plenty of hiding spaces. Use a mix of coco fiber, leaf litter, and rotten wood as the substrate, kept slightly damp but never waterlogged. Provide pieces of cork bark, bark chips, and dried leaves on top of the substrate so they can hide, graze, and feel secure.

These isopods also need a humidity gradient, with one side of the enclosure kept more moist and the other slightly drier, so they can choose where they’re most comfortable. Offer a varied diet, including leaf litter, high-quality isopod or fish food, and occasional veggie or fruit pieces, and remove uneaten fresh food before it molds. Keep them at room temperature (roughly mid‑60s to mid‑70s °F) and avoid extreme heat or cold.

Basic Dairy Cow Isopod Care

  • Medium enclosure with secure lid and good ventilation

  • Substrate: coco fiber, leaf litter, and rotten wood, 2–3 inches deep

  • Keep substrate moist but not soaked

  • Provide cork bark and other hides on top of the substrate

  • Maintain a moist side and a slightly drier side in the enclosure

  • Temperature: about mid‑60s to mid‑70s °F (no direct heat or cold drafts)

  • Primary food: leaf litter and decaying wood

  • Supplement with isopod pellets, fish food, or shrimp pellets

  • Occasional treats: small pieces of vegetables or fruits

  • Remove uneaten fresh food to prevent mold

  • Avoid handling too often and move them gently if needed

  • Check regularly for mold, mites, or excess waste and spot-clean as needed

  • Use dechlorinated or spring water for misting and moisture
