Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula

Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula

1.5" Sling

The Chilean Rose Hair Tarantula (Grammostola rosea) is a calm, hardy, and beginner‑friendly species that makes an excellent first tarantula. Native to the deserts and scrublands of Chile and nearby regions, it is known for its gentle temperament and attractive rosy coloration on the carapace. With a typical adult leg span of 4–5 inches and females often living 15–20+ years in captivity, this species can be a long‑term and rewarding pet when given proper care.

This is a terrestrial tarantula that thrives in a simple enclosure with more floor space than height. A 5–10 gallon tank (or similar-sized enclosure) with several inches of substrate, at least one secure hide, moderate humidity, and a shallow water dish is usually sufficient. They are generally slow‑moving and docile but can be skittish at times, so handling should be limited and always done carefully to avoid falls, which can be fatal to tarantulas.

Care & Feeding Highlights

Enclosure size: 5–10 gallon terrestrial setup with good ventilation

Substrate: 3–5 inches of coco fiber, peat moss, or similar for light digging

Temperature: About 70–80°F (21–27°C); typical room temperature works well

Humidity: Around 55–65%; avoid constantly wet substrate

Hides & decor: At least one secure hide; optional fake plants or smooth rocks

Diet: Live insects such as crickets, dubia roaches, or mealworms

Feeding (juveniles): Small prey 2–3 times per week

Feeding (adults): 1–2 appropriately sized prey items once a week

Water: Shallow water dish with fresh, clean water available at all times

Molting care: Do not disturb or feed during or immediately after a molt; wait several days before offering food
